a bit next week to the vice presidential nominees. paul ryan and joe biden will face off in their only debate next thursday night. paul ryan has just left his four-day debate camp. he is heading back to wisconsin for a fund-raiser tonight. and as for the vice president, we check in with msnbc news campaign embed carrie dan. she's embedded with vice president joe biden's team. carrie, vice president biden's schedule shows him to be in wilmington, delaware, right now, and for the next few days. what is planned for him? >> that's right, milissa. he's going to be doing his own debate camp there, up until a day before the debate. he's spending time with chris van hollen, that's his sparring partner. van hollen has worked with paul ryan, he's a democrat from maryland, who worked with ryan with and against on the house budget committee. so van hollen is someone who's very familiar, not only with his policies. so the two of them will be participating in mock debates. they've done two to date, and i'm sure they'll be doing a lot more up until wednesday, before they head to danville, kentucky, f
reviewing ryan's speeches. he's reading "young guns," the book that ryan co-wrote. he's done at least three mock debates. paul ryan has been watching tapes of biden's previous debate appearances and rehearsing for what is likely to be a major offensive. >> i really think that, you know, because they had such a bad debate, that joe is just going to come flying at us. and it seems pretty clear that their new strategy is basically just call us liars. >> i'm joined now by the former communications director for the edwards presidential campaign and robert train yam, an msnbc contributor and bush/cheney adviser. good morning to both of you. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> we know both men have been hunkered down preparing for this debate. in these closing days, chris what do they do? >> this debate has kind of gained more significance because of the last debate. >> yeah. >> i would actually say significances for both candidates, because romney's campaign clearly wants to try to build on the momentum and the obama campaign wants to blunt it. vice president biden is going to come in and he's g
the romney/ryan campaign raised last night in milwaukee. we look at how the money will get put to work. topping the political headlines, a whole new round of fire on the sunday morning talk shows over -- the debate. tell you how nbc's "meet the press," senior obama campaign adviser robert gibbs conceded the president could have done better and also took aim at governor romney. >> it's not rocket science to believe that the president was disappointed in the expectations that he has for himself. but, look, i think part of that was because as i said earlier, we met a new mitt romney. speaker gingrich was pretty eloquent in running during the primaries in saying that mitt romney will say absolutely anything to get elected. >> former speaker and republican candidate newt gingrich said this morning that president obama has no excuse. >> the president of the united states had 90 minutes. now, if he had done his homework and actually prepared and actually studied romney, why didn't he say it? i mean why didn't he take romney head-on? the job of the president is supposed to be competent and be
